"Oxford is the most dangerous place to which a young person can be sent" Anthony Trollope

Welcome to Oxfordshire! As you may have guessed, this won't be a traditional wedding. The main festivities will be held in a (fingers-crossed) mud-free field in North Newington (see map below). The actual marriage ceremony is nearby, but we'll sort out transport to & from.

The main details are outlined below. Firstly, the location itself. Secondly, some advice and requests. Lastly, some options for accommodation and travel. Please, please contact either Alex or Dodi if you need any help choosing or booking any of the below.

Where is it?

The house address is Saddlers Cottage, Main Street, North Newington, Banbury, OX15 6AJ. This however is not the venue. To get to the venue, follow the signs on the road (pictures to be published nearer the time). For non-SatNavers, the directions are as follows:

  • From Broughton

Drive into North Newington, through the village, past the Blinking Owl pub (see below) on your left and out the other side. 100m after the last house is a T-junction with the right turn pointing to Wroxton. Take this turn, and the turning into the reception venue and tent city is 150m up the road on the right. Look for the bunting! Drive along the road past the marquee and park up where directed

  • From Wroxton

Drive through Wroxton, passing the Wroxton House Hotel (see below) on your right after a sharp left-hand corner. Come out the other side of the village, and immediately take the left fork at the triangle (signed 'North Newington'). Follow this road for 1-2 miles down the hill, the entrance to the venue is on the left side of a right-hand turn at the base of the hill. Look for the bunting! Drive along the road past the marquee and park up where directed

 Advice and Requests

Timings
Please check the running order! You are invited to the whole event, but please be parked up and ready to go at North Newington by
12.30pm on Saturday at the latest.

Pets
Yes, we are vets. Yes, we love dogs. But no, I'm afraid we can't have any dogs on site. Both insurance requirements and the current canine resident forbids it, plus some of the later entertainment may not be to doggy tastes

Drinks
There are no licencing laws
or regulations; we will be laying on sufficient booze but it will be basic (beer, wine, softs). If you only drink Advocaat and Chambord, please feel free to bring it. If you do bring your own, please be prepared to share & don't leave glass about (the horses take possesion of the field again on Tuesday)

Smoke & Fire

There will be a firepit; those with toddlers please be careful! For those that smoke, please be aware that the marquee
company expressly forbids it within 2m of the tents

Accommodation

There are three main options for where to go once sleep catches up with you:

Tent City

Pros: On-site, no curfews or cares. Less than 50 meters from friends, festivities and the fire

Cons: Canvas. Heating is minimal and the toilets are not en-suite...

We will be providing as many tents as required for those that want them; there is nothing to pay but please let us know well in advance if you require one. These are no ordinary tents; they are classic canvas bells, roomy and come with a bed. You will however need to bring your own duvet/pillows/teddy. Please be aware that as glam as they may look, they are what they say they are - tents!

Wroxton House Hotel

Pros: Best-Western Hotel and breakfast

Cons: A taxi ride away for event and Sunday BBQ

Very close to the actual marriage venue, but a taxi from the reception but this is the 'nicest' hotel within a reasonable distance.

The Blinking Owl Pub and B&B

Pros: Walking distance from the reception venue

Cons: Somewhat dated, only three rooms

The Blinking Owl is the village local, and is a 10 minute saunter from the reception. A different 'type' of hotel from the Best Western, but very conveniently placed
